The United States State Department has approved the sale of six Poseidon aircraft to the Indian Navy, strengthening the two countries surveillance and interoperability in the Indo-Pacific.

The US State Department has approved the potential sale of six P-8I 'Poseidon' patrol aircraft to the Indian government, with the deal valued at US$2.42 billion ($3.13 billion).
According to the Defense Security Cooperation Agency, along with the P-8I Patrol aircraft, the sale includes tactical radio systems, missile detection sensors, GPS and navigation capabilities, as well as the ongoing repair of the aircraft. The deal will be delivered by Boeing.
The deal comes following India’s purchase of eight P-8I aircraft in 2009, and will enhance the Indian Navy’s surveillance capabilities.
The United States State Department hopes that the deal with solidify the growing US-Indian geostrategic alliance.
