France, Australia and New Zealand reaffirm commitment to FRANZ 30 years on

The three nations have reaffirmed their commitment to the Joint Statement on Disaster Relief Cooperation in the South Pacific, pledging to enhance regional disaster preparedness and response capabilities.

The three nations have reaffirmed their commitment to the Joint Statement on Disaster Relief Cooperation in the South Pacific, pledging to enhance regional disaster preparedness and response capabilities.

The announcement was made as France, Australia, and New Zealand celebrated the 30th anniversary of the agreement on 30 June.

The agreement created a framework to facilitate information exchange and collective use of assets during disaster relief scenarios in the Pacific.

In a statement made by the French government to outline the renewed agreement, the three nations announced they expect humanitarian disasters in the Pacific to increase due to the increased risk of climate change, requiring a trilateral response.

Marking the occasion, the partner nations agreed to continue aligning efforts in the face of disaster response missions at the request of Pacific partners. It is set to include an agreement to strengthen their capability to respond to health disasters in emergency scenarios, including improving health response capabilities.

FRANZ partners also pledged to continuously review commitments between one another, share lessons, deepen dialogue with Pacific partners and provide emergency services training in the region.
