Israel has requested 120mm high explosive anti-tank munitions, while Germany will acquire MK 54 lightweight torpedo munitions under two separate foreign military sales to be approved by the US Secretary of State and the US State Department.

The government of Israel has requested to buy 13,981 120mm M830A1 high explosive anti-tank multipurpose with tracer tank cartridges, publications and technical documentation, logistics and program support for around US$106.5 million.

The possible foreign military sale has been approved by the US Secretary of State and notified to US Congress on 8 December. The approval was approved and justified because an emergency exists that requires the immediate sale to Israel due to national security interests of the US.

“The United States is committed to the security of Israel, and it is vital to US national interests to assist Israel to develop and maintain a strong and ready self-defence capability. This proposed sale is consistent with those objectives,” according to a public statement made by the Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) on 8 December.

“Israel will use the enhanced capability as a deterrent to regional threats and to strengthen its homeland defence. Israel will have no difficulty absorbing this equipment into its armed forces.

“The proposed sale of this equipment and support will not alter the basic military balance in the region. This will be a sale from US Army inventory.

“Implementation of this proposed sale will not require the assignment of any additional US government or contractor representatives to Israel.”

A separate possible foreign military sale includes MK 54 lightweight torpedoes and related equipment approved by the US State Department for the government of Germany.

The potential US$300 million sale includes 80 MK 54 All Up Round Lightweight Torpedoes, MK 54 Mod 0 LWT spare parts, recoverable exercise torpedoes with containers, handling shapes and containers, torpedo spare parts, tools for mounting and dismounting of air launch accessories, training, publications, support and test equipment.

US Congress was notified by the Defense Security Cooperation Agency of the possible sale on 7 December.

“This proposed sale will support the foreign policy and national security of the United States by improving the security of a NATO ally that is an important force for political and economic stability in Europe,” according to the DSCA.

“The proposed sale will improve Germany’s capability to meet current and future threats by upgrading anti-submarine warfare capabilities on its P-8A aircraft.”

Raytheon Integrated Defense Systems is expected to be the principal contractor and will not require the assignment of any additional US government or contractor representatives to Germany.
