Russian defence manufacturer Kalashnikov Concern is delivering tooling machines and equipment to assist production of new 7.62mm AK-203 assault rifles in India.

The delivery of 4,500 equipment units and licensing from Kalashnikov, owned by the Rostec State Corporation, is expected to allow the production of more than 600,000 AK-203 assault rifles in the city of Corva in India under the “Make in India” government program.

Tooling equipment includes gauges, dies, fixtures, and cutting tools.

“Since the signing of the agreement in December 2021, we have done a tremendous amount of work with all services of the enterprise,” according to Kalashnikov Concern JSC president Alan Lushnikov.

“New technological documentation was developed, equipment was purchased, and additional staff were recruited.

“As of today, the products have been delivered to the warehouse for shipment to India.”

The first batch of rifles are expected to be produced out of the Korwa Ordnance Factory in Amethi, Uttar Pradesh, and India is the first country to start producing the AK-200-series assault rifles under the government of India’s Defence Acquisition Procedure 2020.

The rifle has a number of modern design features, such as a folding and adjustable buttstock, a windowed and rifled magazine, an ergonomic pistol grip, and a 30-shot magazine.
