Sydney-headquartered engineering, maintenance, and support services company UGL has begun its defence fuel network managing contractor role as it supports the operational readiness of the Australian Defence Force.

Sydney-headquartered engineering, maintenance, and support services company UGL has begun its defence fuel network managing contractor role as it supports the operational readiness of the Australian Defence Force.

Under the six-year $500 million contract, the CIMIC Group member will provide strategic advisory, supply management, operations and maintenance for the ADF’s extensive fuel network, according to a public statement made on 1 November.

“As we take on the role of the Defence Fuel Network Managing Contractor, we underscore our dedication to supporting the ADF and strengthening national security,” according to UGL managing director Doug Moss.

“UGL’s expertise in reviewing and remediating critical infrastructure will instil confidence in the ADF to execute its critical missions across Australia,” said Moss.

“We’re excited to play a pivotal role in this important work.

“With over 350 skilled professionals stationed at more than 120 Defence establishments, we are ready to ensure that the ADF’s fuel network operates at its best. UGL is committed to continuing its role as a reliable partner in Australia’s defence infrastructure.”

UGL has also partnered with international robotics, maritime, and aerospace company Exail in its bid to secure the Royal Australian Navy’s SEA 1905 project.

“Exail’s Australian sustainment partner is positioned to deliver prompt and efficient support wherever it is required,” according to Exail chief executive officer Dominique Giannoni.

“We’re confident that having UGL as our sustainment partner will strengthen our ability to deliver, support, and grow the crucial mine countermeasure and military survey capabilities for Australia moving forward.

“Further, by establishing our team and offices within UGL’s headquarters in North Sydney, close to HMAS Waterhen, the heart of the RAN’s underwater warfare capability, we’re taking a significant step to embed our support capabilities and ensure prompt response when needed.

“This move reinforces our commitment to serving the Royal Australian Navy efficiently and to the highest standard.”

Earlier this year, Exail detailed plans to create more than 100 new skilled jobs in Australia if it is successful for SEA 1905. The SEA 1905 Tranche 1 program is seeking solutions for autonomous minehunting and military survey systems which can be deployed from the shore, vessels of opportunity, and Arafura Class offshore patrol vessels that will be adapted to operate the mission packages.

Under the bid, Exail committed to delivering third-generation maritime countermeasures and military survey solutions to Navy, where it will transfer technical knowledge to support the build of Australian industrial capability in the field.

The jobs pitched by Exail span artificial intelligence, cyber security, software engineering, research and development, logistics and supply chain management, naval robotics, and project management.
