American multinational conglomerate Honeywell has signed a memorandum of understanding with Indonesian aerospace company PT Dirgantara Indonesia (PTDI) to collaborate on enhancing the Indonesian Armed Forces’ mission readiness.

American multinational conglomerate Honeywell has signed a memorandum of understanding with Indonesian aerospace company PT Dirgantara Indonesia (PTDI) to collaborate on enhancing the Indonesian Armed Forces’ mission readiness.

Both companies signed the agreement at the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Washington, DC, on 13 November, witnessed by Indonesia’s Ambassador to the United States, Rosan Roeslani.

Cooperative initiatives will include localising maintenance, repair and overhaul capabilities in Indonesia for Honeywell contents on various platforms, collaborating on retrofit, modification and upgrade opportunities for global customers, as well as exploring opportunities to establish a robust supply chain in Indonesia for aerospace products.

Honeywell defence and aerospace president Matt Milas said the agreement signifies the latest development in Honeywell and PTDI’s collaboration since 2015 and Honeywell’s four decades of commitment to the Indonesian aerospace industry.

“We are proud to expand our collaboration with PT Dirgantara Indonesia across a gamut of initiatives to support the modernisation and readiness of the Indonesian Armed Forces with our products and solutions,” he said.

“This MOU reflects our longstanding commitment to Indonesia and our desire to contribute to its self-reliance and technological advancement.

“We believe that this will contribute greatly to the promising growth of the aerospace and defence industry in Asia-Pacific.”

The agreement is hoped to support the Indonesian defence industry across maintenance services, parts upgrades and manufacturing, he said.

“PT Dirgantara Indonesia is honoured to work with Honeywell to tap on their expertise and solutions for our current and future programs,” according to PT Dirgantara Indonesia president director Gita Amperiawan.

“This partnership enables us to spearhead the development of the aerospace industry in Indonesia and become a major MRO and aerostructures player in the Asia-Pacific region, in line with our ambition to attain business value of up to US$65 million from different OEMs within the next five years.”

In August 2022, Honeywell International signed an agreement with RUAG Australia for the company to become an authorised service centre for F-35 wheels and brakes.

That agreement would see RUAG Australia become a maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) authorised service centre for the Asia-Pacific Wheels and Brakes program for the F-35.

The creation of an MRO authorised service centre by Honeywell will be exclusive to RUAG after receiving the F-35 Joint Program Office’s Authority to Proceed.

As part of the agreement, RUAG Australia is expected to transition its defence and aerospace team from older programs to the F-35 Global Support System.
