Global Defence Solutions to expand local footprint with Qld site

The local SME has announced plans to expand its operations having signed an agreement for a new 2,225-square metre Queensland facility, enabling the company to continue scaling their offerings for Defence.

Located in Bundamba, south-west of Brisbane, the company expects operations to commence in July 2024.

“We are not just investing in a new premise; we are building the future of GDS in South East Queensland,” said Global Defence Solutions (GDS) general manager Jeromy Bendall.

“This is in direct response to the growing needs of our defence partners.”

The company hopes that the new site will enable it to scale operations as part of their strategic growth plan.

“Our plan is to bring the same level of expertise and service to this critical location in Queensland,” Bendall said.

“This expansion will accommodate our growing business and provide us with the ability to support larger projects, especially ones related to civilian emergency services. There will be tangible benefits for our Queensland defence and civilian partners, including reduced transportation costs and downtime for maintenance and repairs.”

The company also announced the acquisition of their fourth building in South Nowra to continue delivering for Defence.

“These expansions also reflect our dedication to supporting the local economy and manufacturing sector,” said Bendall.

“With these strategic moves, GDS is positioning itself as a key player in the defence industry, both domestically and with the potential for future exports.”

In September, GDS announced that it had commenced the manufacture of the deployable container system for the M1A2 Abrams System Enhancement Program Version 3 main battle tank Immersive Tactical Trainer from their Nowra site.

Twelve systems are scheduled for delivery by January 2025, with the first delivery expected for March 2024.

“The modular Abram’s ITT is taking mission simulation to the field, allowing crews to prepare for actual operations while deployed, increasing efficiencies and mission outcomes.

“It represents the latest and greatest training capability for Australia’s upgraded tank force. Once complete, the 12 containerised ITTs will be deployed to defence bases around Australia.”
