RAN Submarine Competition comes to a close

The winners of the Royal Australian Navy’s National Submarine Competition and Tour have finalised their visit to HMAS Stirling.

The winners of the Royal Australian Navy’s National Submarine Competition and Tour have finalised their visit to HMAS Stirling.

The 12 winners of the National Submarine Competition and Tour have completed their tour of the HMAS Stirling, having seen what it takes to become a submariner onboard the Royal Australian Navy’s Collins Class or future Attack Class vessels.

This program marks the third annual National Submarine Competition and Tour, which invites budding submariners aged 18-35 from across Australia to submit a 50-word article on what role they would assume if they were submariners.

The tour exposed the winners to the breadth of technology and training available to members of the Royal Australian Navy, with applications opening in the latter half of 2021 for the 2022 cohort.

Minister for Defence Personnel Darren Chester outlined that the program enabled budding submariners from across the nation to engage with navy life.

“A career in the Royal Australian Navy is incredibly rewarding personally and professionally, and sets people up with some great skills and experiences for the rest of their lives,” Minister Chester said.

“The winners of the competition got to engage with current submariners to learn a little more about the benefits of a career in the Navy, as well as Australia’s submarine capability.

“Submariner careers offer a particularly exciting experience, with crew that are a close-knit team that rely on each other, while being part of a modern military organisation operating advanced vessels and aircraft to keep Australian waters safe.

“Congratulations to our winners, some of whom may be our future submariners.”
