The company has confirmed that it has entered into an agreement with the Kustbevakningen (KBV) for the development of seven carbon fibre fast patrol vessels, dubbed the KBV 320 series.

The vessels are expected to be 26.75 metres in length, reach up to 25 knots and are destined for use within rescue, environmental protection and patrolling operations.

According to the company, they Swedish government developed initial concepts for the vessels, emphasising the importance for fuel efficiency, crew safety and comfort coupled with operational flexibility – with Damen enhancing the seakeeping, comfort and sustainability of the designs.

The sustainability improvements were achieved by lengthening the water line, which enables the vessel to maintain speed with lower resistance, while the carbon fibre development makes the vessel lighter and reduces fuel consumption.

The design includes a slipway in the stern to streamline the launch of the RIB, as well as a sliding platform for a jet ski. The deck is further designed to include a crane to carry small cargo.

The vessels are expected to be powered by three Volvo D13s and Volvo IPS 1050.

“We participate in search and rescue missions to save human lives, prevent injuries, increase maritime safety and reduce the impact to property and the environment,” head of engineering and logistics Henrik Jonsson said.

“Therefore, we want to operate the most environmentally sound vessels possible. We are convinced that Damen offers the best solution for this.”

According to sales manager Martin Verstraaten, Damen drew from their experience with the Stan Patrol vessels for the KBV 320 series.

“We understood the wish for reliable vessels with proven equipment from KBV,” he said.

“Their wish to operate the most sustainable vessel possible, inspired our team to develop the KBV 320s, integrating all the experience of our yard accumulated with the Stan Patrol vessels into this series that purposely fits the requirement from KBV. We are glad to see them as a returning customer, after we previously delivered the KBV 001, 002 and 003 multi-purpose vessels.”
