US science and engineering company Kellogg Brown & Root (KBR) has launched a new augmented reality learning tool to develop 2-D drawings and holographics, and it looks shockingly similar to engineering hologram scenes from the 2008 Marvel Studios film, Iron Man.

US science and engineering company Kellogg Brown & Root (KBR) has launched a new augmented reality learning tool to develop 2-D drawings and holographics, and it looks shockingly similar to engineering hologram scenes from the 2008 Marvel Studios film, Iron Man.

The AR learning tool integrates technical drawings with real world and holographic imagery, in turn supporting trade trainees with developing and interpreting technical drawings and applying them in “real-world” settings.

The system can assist trade trainees in understanding practicality and feasibility of the 2-D drawing, providing increased accuracy of drawings, better understanding of application, and an enhanced learner-led environment.

Government Solutions APAC, systems and training solutions, general manager John Robertson said the technical drawing visualisation tool was developed by KBR’s systems and training solutions team in conjunction with training instructors at HMAS Cerberus.

“It can be quite difficult to explain and comprehend key design concepts using conventional classroom media,” he said.

“The augmented reality visualisation tool is an exciting advancement that supports students better understanding the application of the drawing and the workplace.

“By bringing a 2-D drawing to life over the top of the item the design relates to, instructors can help students to more easily understand the ins and outs of 2-D technical drawings”.
