Saab accepts CT scanners for Defence deployable health capability

Saab Australia has accepted the delivery of three military CT scanners from technology and capability partner Marshall Land Systems to support the delivery of Australia’s deployable health capability under JP 2060 Phase 3.

Saab Australia has accepted the delivery of three military CT scanners from technology and capability partner Marshall Land Systems to support the delivery of Australia’s deployable health capability under JP 2060 Phase 3.

Once operational and deployed, the scanners will enable field medical staff to create detailed diagnostic images of patients — enabling immediate and accurate treatment during military and humanitarian missions.

Representatives from Saab Australia attended an event at Marshall Land Systems’ manufacturing facility in the United Kingdom last week to formally accept the CT scanners and celebrate the project milestone.

Saab Australia managing director Andy Keough CSC, congratulated Marshall Land Systems and the Saab project team on the milestone, saying, “Saab has brought together world-leading technology providers and healthcare experts to deliver the JP 2060 Phase 3 deployable health capability for the Australian Defence Force.”

Marshall Land Systems managing director Gary Moynehan said he was delighted Saab Australia representatives were able to visit the Cambridge manufacturing facility for the formal acceptance of the military CT scanning equipment.

“Our innovative and award-winning CT scanner system is designed to meet clinicians’ needs for the highest quality diagnostic imagery, even in the most austere environments, and can be operational within four hours of arrival in theatre. Our engineering has ensured that the containerised solution will bring a high level of mobility and flexibility to the field hospitals that will be deployed across the world.”

Saab signed a contract with the Australian Department of Defence in 2020 to deliver more than 550 deployable health modules. The AU$370 million order is to be fulfilled between 2020 and 2024.

Modules within the program will include features such as surgical theatres, X-ray, CT scanning and ultrasound equipment, and trauma, intensive care and ward units. Saab and Marshall Land Systems are also working together on future global opportunities in deployable healthcare.
