US State Department approves Hawkeye sustainment package for France

The United States Defense Security Cooperation Agency announced that the State Department has approved a US$160 million foreign military sale to France for E-2C Hawkeye sustainment items and services.

The United States Defense Security Cooperation Agency announced that the State Department has approved a US$160 million foreign military sale to France for E-2C Hawkeye sustainment items and services.

Following the State Department’s determination, Congress was notified of the possible sale, with Northrop Grumman operating as the principal US contractor.

As part of the package, non-MDE E-2C Hawkeye sustainment items and services including an Engine Component Improvement Program, software updates, technical publications, US government and contractor technical/product support/assistance and other logistics and program support would be sold to France.

According to the Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA), the sale was requested by the French government and is expected to be added to a previously implemented case.

The US State Department hopes that the foreign military sale will “improve the security” of a NATO ally and enable France to overcome any current or future threats.

US government personnel will visit France temporarily to support the sale, with one contractor assigned to France permanently.

Earlier in the month, the DSCA advised Congress of the possible sale of eight MK 41 Vertical Launching Systems to the Netherlands valued at US$110 million.

Under the deal, eight eight-cell MK 41 Vertical Launching Systems Baseline VII Strike Length Launcher Modules, spare parts, handling equipment, software, engineering, technical data, and program support will be transferred.

The VLS Mk 41 launchers are traditionally located below deck on naval vessels and capable of firing missiles in anti-aircraft, anti-submarine warfare, strike, naval surface fire support and ballistic missile defence missions.

“The Royal Netherlands Navy intends to use the MK 41 VLS Baseline VII strike length launcher modules for their new ship class,” the announcement read.

“These modules are intended for ESSM BLK1 and SM-2 capabilities in support of ongoing and emergent operational needs.

“The Netherlands has previously purchased MK 41 VLS capability and actively uses it on their current ship classes.”

Lockheed Martin has been selected as the prime contractor and US government or contractor personnel in-country visits will be conducted on a temporary basis in conjunction with program technical oversight and support requirements.
