An Australian defence and technology specialist has secured an export deal with the Falkland Islands government for its innovative products.

Leidos Australia has announced it has won an export deal with the Falkland Islands government to deliver technology solutions using the TeraText product suite, a data management system currently used locally and abroad.

The company said, for the first time, all Falkland Island laws will be available to the public, using the Australian-built technology.

The TeraText product suite was originally conceived at RMIT University under an Australian Research Council grant. The project later received funding through the Australian Department of Defence and TeraText has subsequently been used by Defence and the Australian Intelligence Community.

TeraText combines the flexibility of a search engine with the precision of a traditional database to make searching and manipulating whole libraries of complex structured documents simple and scalable. In addition to supporting national security, Leidos Australia has also developed the product to support drafting and publishing complex legislation documents.

In Australia, TeraText is used in the Federal Parliament, parliamentary counsels in NSW, Queensland and Tasmania, as well as the Australian Tax Office. Internationally, it is currently used in Canada, the US and Singapore.

Leidos Australia managing director Christine Zeitz said the export opportunity is a positive result for the company's Australian customers.

"Our successful exports of TeraText illustrate our ability to design and develop a globally competitive data management system. This is a great example of exporting capability resulting from successfully delivering to our Australian customers," she said.

The TeraText team is based in Melbourne, Australia.

Leidos Australia is currently preparing tender responses for various Australian defence projects, including the Deployable Health Capability for Phase 3 of the Joint Project 2060.
