Almost $1 million in grants have been awarded to 32 organisations providing community support to Australian Defence Force families, Defence Minister Marise Payne and Defence Personnel Minister Dan Tehan have announced.

Ministers Payne and Tehan said the community grants have been awarded to not-for-profit incorporated community groups that support Defence families.

"The grant funding will allow recipients to assist families to engage with their local communities, promote personal growth for Defence families, and support child and youth development," a joint statement from the ministers said.

"The grants create opportunities for Defence families to form new friendships and networks, and share information and ideas that help them manage the demands of military life, such as the impact of frequent postings and deployments."

The 32 grant recipients manage a broad range of activities, across all states and territories.

Defence families can contact the Defence Family Helpline on 1800 624 608 for information on accessing community resources.
