The Australian Department of Defence has once more renewed its IT support agreement with US firm Unisys, this time spending $46.4 million on an extension ending 31 October 2019.

The Australian Department of Defence has once more renewed its IT support agreement with US firm Unisys, this time spending $46.4 million on an extension ending 31 October 2019.

The refreshed, decade-long contract for delivery of ‘regional ICT services’ will see Unisys supplying support services to about 100,000 customers residing on Defence’s military bases around the country.

Unisys originally secured the contract in 2008, for a period of five years.

The deal, worth $240 million, covered support services such as network security, support of infrastructure and desktop support.

At the time, Unisys said the contract would support lower cost IT operations for the department and help standardise Defence’s IT support functions across the nation.

Subsequent to the initial five-year term, the contract was renewed at a value of $74 million for another two years, taking the service delivery to October this year when the recently announced one-year extension comes into play.
