National IT services firm FTS Group has acquired Connexxion, a Canberra-based ICT company with Defence IT experience, for an undisclosed sum.

The acquisition is part of FTS Group’s expansion plans as it looks to compete with the country’s strongest IT services players.

Connexxion has been a strong player in the Canberra IT sector, with the company holding an array of federal and state government contracts and services a range of clients in the Defence, education, health, research, not-for-profit and private sectors.

FTS Group CEO Stephen Keys said the acquisition has significantly bolstered Connexxion’s IT capabilities and positions the business for new growth opportunities.

"This latest acquisition further validates our dedication to the Canberra IT ecosystem, including both Defence and the public sector. We have been strategically bolstering our capabilities in recent years as we put steps in place to grow beyond our current footprint to service a national market," said Keys.

"FTS offers our clients the ability to scale with us, along with enhanced services such as market insights, strong management processes and the stability customers look for to deliver superior results. FTS continues to grow as we undertake increasingly complex IT contracts and projects for our clients."

Connexxion chairman Hamish McRae said that with Connexxion becoming part of FTS Group, new opportunities for staff and customers will be created,

"Connexxion is already a key long-term player in the Canberra market, but joining FTS Group will give our company access to new skill sets within the group, which will bring many benefits to our client," he said.

"We now have access to a range of new capabilities to offer our clients, including customer relationship management (CRM), Microsoft Azure-led technology and a range of built applications. We are excited about what the future holds for both our staff and our clients."

The latest acquisition comes after FTS Group acquired Canberra-based IT services company Veritec in 2014, which is the leading Canberra-based Microsoft cloud solutions provider for the public sector.

FTS Group is a group of seven IT and professional technical services companies that collectively employ 340 staff across the country. Each business within the group pursues its own area of expertise from change management, training and recruitment, through to bespoke software development and enterprise application integration.
