Minister for Defence Marise Payne will visit Jakarta on 6 June 2018 to meet with senior Indonesian leaders and address Lemhannas, Indonesia’s leading education and training institute.

The meeting will build on Minister Payne's engagement from the joint panel held at the Shangri-La Dialogue on Saturday with a meeting in Jakarta with her Indonesian counterpart, Minister of Defense Ryamizard Ryacudu.

The minister will also hold her first meeting with recently appointed Panglima TNI Commander of the Indonesian National Armed Forces – Air Chief Marshal Hadi Tjahjanto, to discuss current issues in the region.

Minister Payne said she was pleased to visit Indonesia again and to reaffirm the nations’ strong bilateral defence relationship.

"Maintaining a secure and stable region is a strategic priority for both Australia and Indonesia," Minister Payne said.

"Australia’s defence relationship with Indonesia is based on practical co-operation in areas that support our mutual interests in the region such as counter-terrorism, maritime security and humanitarian assistance and disaster relief.

"I also welcome the opportunity to speak to students in Lemhannas about the ways in which both our countries can work together to maintain a secure and resilient region."
