Minister for Veterans’ Affairs Darren Chester has announced over $1 million worth of funding for organisations supporting the needs of younger veterans and their families.

Minister Chester said the grants "would assist with mental health training for veterans, including a train-the-trainer qualification and an establishment of a Best Practice Framework for Peer Led Younger Veteran Wellbeing Programs".
The funding is being provided under the Supporting Younger Veterans (SYV) program.
The full list of successful grants is below:
- Team Rubicon Australia (NSW) – $147,500
- Veterans Centre Sydney Northern Beaches Incorporated (NSW) – $312,600
- Australian Army Training Team Vietnam Association Incorporated (Qld) – $133,500
- Flinders University (SA) – $157,750
- Centacare, Catholic Diocese of Ballarat Limited (Vic) – $66,800
- The Sale Returned and Services League and Community Sub-branch Incorporated (Vic) – $3,700
- La Trobe University (Vic) – $181,000
“The government is putting veterans and their families first and provides more than $11.2 billion each year to deliver the essential services and programs they can rely on, including access to free mental health care,” Minister Chester said.
“These grants are aimed at assisting younger veterans as they leave the Australian Defence Force and integrate back into civilian life to make sure they get the support they need.”
The SYV grants program invests in projects that "maintain and improve the quality of life for members of the veteran community and their families".
“Many of the successful grant recipients are completing projects aimed at improving veterans’ mental health and wellbeing, which is part of the ongoing commitment the government has made to provide support to younger veterans," said Minister Chester.
“I would like to congratulate the successful recipients, and thank all organisations who applied for this round of grants, for the essential support they provide to the veteran community.”
Applications for the next round of grants will be available from 1 July 2019.
