A new category has been added to the Australian Defence Industry Awards to recognise infrastructure and base services businesses.

The Estate & Infrastructure Business of the Year award will highlight the business best supporting the nation’s defence base assets and infrastructure development, and be awarded to the organisation that has excelled over the award assessment period.

With an annual budget nearing $4 billion, the Department of Defence’s Estate & Infrastructure Group plays a critical role supporting of the ADF, including base management and stewardship of a range of Defence assets.

The creation of a new category recognising the businesses delivering estate and base services will showcase their contribution to strengthening Australia’s defence and national security, Defence Connect director Phillip Tarrant said.

“As an area that is often over-looked and sometimes under-valued, the Australian Defence Industry Awards offers the ideal opportunity to put these businesses in the spotlight and reaffirm the important role they play,” Tarrant said

“There’s a raft of organisations involved in the development, expansion and maintenance of Australia’s defence bases, training areas, wharfs and other critical assets. This award will consider their ability to build a quality business that can continue to develop in the years ahead plus the contribution of their product or service.

All businesses operating in this sector of the defence industry are encouraged to make a submission irrespective of size, geographic location or revenue. The category is open to primes, large defence firms and SMEs irrespective of whether they contract direct to the Department of Defence or support through sub-contracting arrangements with other defence industry participants.

Submitting businesses could include facilities management companies; civil construction organisations building or expanding defence bases; security; repair and maintenance businesses; financial, property and travel services companies; or catering and cleaning businesses.
