Sydney-based aerospace and defence technology provider Thomas Global has received FAA approval to for its TFD-7000 Series plug-and-play LCD flight displays for Boeing 757 and Boeing 767 CRT equipped aircraft.

In a great win for the Australian aerospace and defence industry, Thomas Global Systems has received FAA Technical Standard Order (TSO) authorisation and Supplemental Type Certification (STC) approval for its TFD-7000 Series plug-and-play LCD flight displays for Boeing 757 and Boeing 767 CRT equipped aircraft.

These approvals allow Thomas Global to manufacture and deliver the TFD-7000 Series LCD solution to Boeing 757/767 operators, beginning with Delta Air Lines. Delta selected the TFD-7000 Series LCD solution to retrofit their Boeing 757/767 aircraft in late 2018.

Thomas Global is the only Australian company to have avionics products designed and manufactured for a major commercial aircraft flight deck in recent history.

Thomas Global chief executive Angus Hutchinson welcomed the announcement, saying, "FAA approval of our TFD-7000 Series is a significant win for our company. It allows us to proceed with deliveries to Delta Air Lines, our B757/767 launch customer. We greatly appreciate Delta, both as a highly regarded customer, and for their vital role in bringing our latest innovation to the industry."

TFD-7000 Series displays offer a lighter, more reliable and lower life cycle cost replacement for legacy CRTs, with added functionality and capacity for current and emerging airspace requirements. Its inventive plug-and-play design enables cost effective installation on overnights or at the gate, with no flight or maintenance crew retraining required.

"Thomas Global is a unique Australian company. We are the only Australian company that develops and manufactures commercial and military flight-critical avionics. In addition, our products are sold primarily into export markets," Hutchinson added.

The TFD-7076/7066 plug-and-play LCD solutions will replace legacy Rockwell Collins EDU-776/766 CRT displays currently installed on Boeing 757, 767, and 737 classic flight decks. The TFD-7076/7066 LCD displays are both interchangeable and intermixable with the existing legacy EDU-776/766 CRT displays and are fully compatible with the EFIP-701 and EAP-701/3 Boeing symbol generators.

With FAA B757/767 approvals achieved, Thomas Global is on plan to begin TFD-7000 series deliveries to Delta beginning this month, while moving forward with an STC for the 737-300/400/500.

Hutchinson added, "The TFD-7000 Series has a number of commercial applications. It is designed for installation in Boeing 757, 767 and 737 flight decks. In addition, the technology has great potential for defence buyers including use for military transports, tankers and government VIP aircraft."
