The team behind the Australasian Simulation Congress 2019 is putting the final touches as subject matter experts and attendees prepare to descend on the Gold Coast in a little over a week.
After a break in 2018, the team said it is excited to be presenting an excellent line-up of speakers, including Professor Walter Greenleaf (behavioural neuroscientist and VR innovator), Commodore Allison Norris (Director General, ADSTC) and Professor Marek Kowalkiewicz (digital economy expert) and an array of other defence industry speakers.
This year the conference will explore the theme of 'Balance and Disruption', considering how simulation will help to achieve a balance between the conflicting priorities of today’s needs versus preparing for the disruption of the future.
Convenor of the event, Thales Australia technical director of avionics Philip Swadling, said the congress is packed with program highlights, starting with the grand opening with Minister for Industry, Science and Technology Karen Andrews, a Defence stream on Wednesday, 4 September, and other areas of interest across the week.
"The Noetic Group once again are sponsoring our SimYouth program, our contribution to engaging students with STEM. As you’d expect there are a number of networking activities throughout the week, including the SimPlay drinks – a combined event highlighting Women in Simulation and the Games community. We are grateful to have Thales sponsoring the Best Paper Award, and sponsors Bohemia Interactive Simulations, Laerdal and Cubic with us again. We welcome both Bond University and Destination Gold Coast behind us this year too," Swadling said.
The Defence Synthetic Environment Working Group will hold its next meeting on Friday, 6 September at the Gold Coast Convention Centre, immediately after the congress.
"I’m absolutely thrilled with the team of speakers we have on board this year. Join us for the week, join us for the day. There is sure to be something that inspires, educates and connects you with the world of simulation," Swadling added.
Simulation Australasia, the national body for those working in simulation in Australasia, will once again bring together SimHealth, SimTecT and the Serious Games streams for the 2019 Australasian Simulation Congress with opportunities for a number of joint sessions of mutual interest.
