In this podcast, former commander, Forces Command, Australian Army, turned adjunct professor for Monash University and director of L3 Technologies Australia, Major General Gus McLachlan joins host Phil Tarrant to discuss his new role supporting the research and development capability of Monash University, one of Australia’s leading universities. 

During this podcast, McLachlan will also discuss the growing concerns about the integrity and possibility of foreign influence on Australia’s university campuses and the moves in the US to protect their own universities and research and development organisations from foreign interference, espionage and intellectual property theft. 

 
 

McLachlan will also expand on the powerful force multiplying role Australia’s universities and R&D capabilities bring to the nation and the role they play in supporting the development of Australia’s national security and future defence capabilities. 

Finally, McLachlan will take a closer look at the role Australia will play in the increasingly contested Indo-Pacific region and how the modernisation, recapitalisation and expansion of Australia’s Defence and defence industrial capabilities will figure into the broader regional dynamics as they continue to unfold.
