Exercise PANDAROO 2019 kicks off

Australian Army members have travelled to China to begin the bilateral adventure training Exercise PANDAROO.

Australian Army members have travelled to China to begin the bilateral adventure training Exercise PANDAROO.

Now in its fourth year, 2019’s edition will take place in Hainan Island, after it was held in Australia last year.

The first edition of PANDAROO took place in 2015, and Defence said the exercise is an “example of the constructive military engagement” undertaken as part of Australia’s defence relationship with China.

The actual exercise involved Australian Army personnel working alongside their Chinese counterparts during a series of adventure training activities, and aims to design “strong people-to-people” links and mutual understanding at the junior officer, non-commissioned officer and soldier level.

This year’s PANDAROO runs from 9-20 October 2019.

Last year, Australia held the exercise and the series of training activities was hosted in three regions, Canberra, Sydney and the Blue Mountains, and was participated in by the Australian Army’s 6th Brigade.
