Iraqi Army instructors from the School of Infantry Non-Commissioned Officer II (SINCO II) continue to steam towards full operating capability before the end of the year, increasingly taking the lead for teaching the school.

Recently, the Iraqi Army instructors ran a live-fire marksmanship training at the Taji Military Complex, which Task Group Taji 9 Australian and New Zealand personnel assisted with.

Observing the training was Commander Joint Task Force 633 Rear Admiral Mark Hill, during his visit to the complex.

Task Group Taji has trained around 45,000 members of the Iraqi Security Forces and law enforcement agency personnel since 2015, as part of Operation OKRA.

Operation OKRA is the Australian commitment to the US-led Operation Inherent Resolve, the military intervention against the terrorist group Daesh.

Operation MANAWA is the New Zealand commitment.

Recently, one of the Iraqi security forces' (ISF) soldiers mentored by ADF members of Task Group Taji 9 (TGT-9) was named the ‘Combined Joint Task Force – Operation Inherent Resolve (CJTF-OIR) Trainer of the Week’ after demonstrating exceptional commitment to his duties at the School of Infantry.

The ISF member received the award from Commander TGT-9 Colonel Michael Bassingthwaighte and Training Director CJTF-OIR Brigadier General Paolo Fortezza during a ceremony at TGT headquarters.

TGT-9 advises ISF training establishments on how to plan and deliver a broad spectrum of combined arms training through classroom and practical scenario instruction.
