Australia-based Holmwood Highgate has secured a contract to develop and deliver six Mobile Bulk Aviation Tankers for the New Zealand Ministry of Defence as part of its Garrison and Training Support (GATS) Project. The design and build phases of the contract will be shared between its Brisbane and Melbourne facilities.

The value of the contract is within NZ$5-$10 million and will underpin the Holmwood Highgate core manufacturing teams in Queensland and Victoria during these trying COVID impacted times. Delivery will commence in early 2021.
The GATS Project covers the NZDF’s domestic operational and training support vehicle fleets. A number of specialist vehicles (such as aircraft refuelling, fire appliances and medical response vehicles) are scheduled for replacement.
Wade Mellish, managing director of Holmwood Highgate, Queensland, welcomed the announcement, saying, “We are delighted to be down-selected to support the NZ Crown, and this award reinforces our capability as a class leader in bulk liquid transport. It’s a real morale boost to win an order of this size but especially when it's helping the regions support capabilities.”
These provide critical capabilities within New Zealand either delivering or supporting outputs such as emergency service activities, humanitarian and disaster relief, as well as day to day support to military training and domestic operational needs.

This includes road tankers, aviation refuelers and the unique deployable, ruggedised bulk tanker modules built within an ISO container footprint.
These capabilities are ideal for forward deployment; critical missions; peacekeeping; disaster relief and humanitarian. Their two facilities are located in Brisbane and Melbourne.
