The Victoria-based company’s multi-phase investment plan has hit a new milestone following the official opening of its expanded facility.

Manufacturer of precision motion control components Moog Australia — a wholly owned subsidiary of global manufacturer Moog Inc — has opened its newly expanded facility in Heatherton, as part of a multi-phase investment plan aimed at strengthening its local capability and supporting regional expansion.

The new facility, which has been built to accommodate 40 additional engineering, technical and support employees, is expected to support the delivery of through-life defence systems and solutions.

The facility was officially opened by Victorian defence advocate John O’Callaghan during a ceremony on Thursday, 13 May.

Bryan O’Connor, managing director of Moog Australia, noted the sovereign industrial capability benefits of the new facility.

“It is with excitement that we celebrate Moog’s continued growth and expansion in both Australia and the Indo-Pacific region,” he said.

“The facility is dedicated to the support of the defence and aerospace markets, further developing capabilities to design and manufacture mission critical defence solutions from Australia, focused on weaponisation and precision motion control.

Jim Riedel, defence sector group vice president for Moog Inc, said the investment was evidence of the firm’s ongoing commitment to supporting Australian Defence Force platforms and systems.

“It signifies Moog’s continued commitment to providing Australian sovereign capability and increasing the number of local jobs that focus on defence manufacturing and sustainment capability,” Riedel continued.

“This new facility also enhances Moog Australia’s ability to scale within the Indo-Pacific region, supporting the Australian government’s defence export strategy of increasing global export.”

Air Commodore Damien Keddie, Director General, Joint Strike Fighter Branch, added, “This announcement stimulates investment within the defence industry sector, creating jobs growth and offers businesses a chance to export overseas.

“This expansion enables Moog to enhance its support across the land, air and sea domains.”
