Defence and aviation design and manufacturing firm Thomas Global Systems has appointed a new managing director to oversee the company’s Australian defence business unit.
Andrew Hutchinson has been appointed managing director of Thomas Global Systems’ Australian defence business unit, the company has confirmed.
In his role, Hutchinson will be responsible for overseeing the company’s Australia defence business line having already served as vice president of engineering and programs, overseeing commercial and military programs in Australia and the US.
According to Thomas Global Systems, Hutchinson has overseen significant projects including the Next Generation Biocular Display technology supported by the Commonwealth’s Defence Innovation Hub, the training system project for the Australian Army’s Boxer CRV, the crew procedural trainer program for the ASLAV and the ISCMMS remediation project for the Collins Class submarine.
“Thomas Global Systems has a long and proud history of providing 100 per cent Australian sovereign capability to the Australian Defence Force and I’m honoured to take the lead of Thomas Global’s defence business in Australia,” Hutchinson said.

In August, Thomas Global Systems was selected to support a major US armoured vehicle program, securing a multi-year contract to deliver digital targeting display systems for installation on the fleet.
The company’s BIOC technology leverages fully digital architecture to deliver a display solution free of cathode-ray tube (CRT) obsolescence risks.
The technology is expected to enhance unit reliability and cost of ownership, and can be adopted as forward-fit units or integrated into installed systems as part of obsolescence management or technology insertion programs.
