Serco signs Soldier On pledge to continue support of veteran community

Serco Australia pledged to continue its support and commitment to Australia’s veteran and reservist workforce, having supported the organisation as a platinum partner since 2018.

Serco Australia pledged to continue its support and commitment to Australia’s veteran and reservist workforce, having supported the organisation as a platinum partner since 2018.

Clint Thomas, AM, CSC, managing director of Serco Defence, explained that the partnership between Soldier On and Serco Australia enabled the company to work closely with Australia’s diverse and talented veteran community.

“Currently, Serco proudly employs 551 veterans and 183 reservists across Australia. Supporting our current and former service men and women and providing them with employment opportunities is extremely important to us,” Thomas said.

“We value the unique skills and experience that our veteran community possess and strive to ensure Serco remains ready to attract, engage and retain that top talent. We were proud to be recognised for this as a finalist in the 2021 Prime Ministers Veteran Employment Awards.

“We are grateful for the courage and sacrifice of the men and women who have served our country, and we’re proud to work with Soldier On to help them continue their incredibly important work.”

The announcement follows years of co-operation between Serco and Soldier On. Since 2018, Serco has agreed to support Soldier On as a platinum partner and looks forward to continuing the partnership for an additional year.

”We are a leading member of the Industry Advisory Committee (IAC) on Veterans’ Employment and actively contributing to formulation of Ministerial advice and collaborate on policy development; supporting ADF Transition Seminars to provide career advice and mentorship for service members preparing to transition to civilian life as well as the Soldier On Pathways Program,” Thomas said.

“Above all, we are dedicated to fostering an inclusive environment that ensures that any veteran joining our team is set up for success. This includes the commitment to reserve service with 10 days paid leave to enable our veterans to continue service.”

Ivan Slavich, chief executive of Soldier On, welcomed Serco’s ongoing support and expects that such partnerships with leading companies will provide further opportunities for Australia’s veteran community.

“Soldier On is thrilled to have Serco recommitting to the Soldier On Pledge. As an active supporter of the veteran community, Serco understands the needs of the veteran community and recognises the impact that service has on the whole defence family. In partnership with Soldier On, Serco has further built on this support, providing a supportive and encouraging environment for veterans. We look forward to continuing to work closely with Serco to provide greater opportunities to our serving and ex-serving veterans and their families,” Slavich said.

“For every organisation that signs the Pledge, we are one step closer to enabling more veterans and their families to secure their future.”

As a veteran of the Royal Australian Navy, Thomas described the warm relationship between the two organisations.

“Serco is a veteran inclusive organisation and as a veteran of the Royal Australian Navy myself, I am incredibly proud of the partnership we have built with Soldier On,” Thomas said.
