The Legacy Centenary Torch Relay has travelled through the Northern Territory on its journey to commemorate Legacy’s centenary.

The torch has travelled from its official opening ceremony at Pozières, France on 23 April to Belgium and London before arriving in Australia, touring Western Australia and making its way to RAAF Base Darwin on 19 May.

The torch will finish its six-month journey in Melbourne in October this year after covering 50,000 kilometres with 100 stops over 75 days, 44 Legacy Clubs visits, and being carried by 1,500 torch bearers.

“We are thrilled the Legacy Centenary Torch Relay 2023, presented by Defence Health, will make its way to Darwin,” said Legacy NT president Scott Perkins.

“This momentous occasion celebrating 100 years of Legacy gives the community a wonderful incentive to come out and celebrate the work of the charity.

“Darwin has a rich military history and what better way to have the torch here to recognise and pay tribute to the service and sacrifice of our servicemen and women and their families.”

The event is supported by Legacy and Defence Health. This year, Legacy commemorates 100 years of service to the families of Australian Defence Force members who have given their life or health in service to Australia.
