CAE Defense & Security has been awarded a contract by Bell Textron to deliver training aids, devices, simulators, and simulations as part of the Future Long Range Assault Aircraft program.

CAE Defense & Security has been awarded a contract by Bell Textron to deliver training aids, devices, simulators, and simulations as part of the Future Long Range Assault Aircraft program.

According to information released by the CAE, the initial contract will include virtual prototyping as well as developing visual display systems and radio simulations for portable flight training systems under the Future Long Range Assault Aircraft (FLRAA) program.

“The FVL program demonstrates the US Army’s commitment to aviation modernisation and providing transformational capabilities to support joint force operations and strengthen deterrence,” Dan Gelston, group president, CAE Defense & Security, said.

“CAE is pleased to contribute decades of simulation expertise as a strategic partner with Bell and member of Team Valor to support the next generation of US Army aircraft and ensure mission readiness for future forces.”

It is expected that future deliverables for the FLRAA program will include the development and delivery of an enhanced virtual maintenance training systems and hardware-based maintenance trainers, the company said in a statement.

Bell Textron’s V-280 Valor tiltrotor was selected under the US Army’s Future Vertical Lift program in 2022, to “eventually” replace the UH-60 Black Hawk.

As part of the US Army’s Future Vertical Lift initiative, the FLRAA aims to increase the range of rotary assault missions and support ground operations at greater distances.

Bell Textron overcame Lockheed Martin and Boeing’s Defiant X for the contract.

Black Hawks have been in service within the US Army for more than four decades.

CAE and Bell Textron first partnered to deliver solutions for the Future Vertical Lift systems family in 2021, with CAE providing training devices and products including courseware, interactive multimedia instruction, and procedural training.

“Operator and maintainer training are key aspects to ensuring FLRAA weapon system capabilities for our warfighters,” Ryan Ehinger, senior vice-president and program director for FLRAA at Bell Textron, said.

“We look forward to continuing to work with CAE as we support the Army in its critical efforts to modernise and increase the lethality of our nation’s soldiers.”
