Two ADF personnel declared dead following vehicle incident

Personnel from the 7th Combat Brigade have tragically lost their lives following an incident in Townsville Field Training Area.

Personnel from the 7th Combat Brigade have tragically lost their lives following an incident in Townsville Field Training Area.

According to Defence, the ADF members were travelling on a public road when their vehicle rolled.

Rescue and medical teams rushed to the scene, however, the personnel were later confirmed to be deceased.

No other members were injured during the incident.

The families of the deceased soldiers have been notified and are currently receiving support and assistance from Defence.  

“This is a tragic accident and our deepest sympathies go to the families and loved ones of our soldiers,” Chief of the Army, Lieutenant General Rick Burr, AO, DSC, MVO.

“Our highest priority is caring for the families, friends and loved ones of our soldiers and we ask that you respect their privacy during this difficult time.

“It is with this in mind that we will not be releasing the names of our soldiers at this time.”

The incident is currently under investigation, with Defence working alongside the Queensland Police Service to identify the cause of the accident.

ADF members and their families can contact the Defence All-hours Support Line, a confidential telephone service available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, by calling 1800 628 036. Defence families can also contact the Defence Family Helpline on 1800 624 608.

Safe Zone Support (1800 142 072) is also available as a free and anonymous counselling line for current and former ADF personnel and their families. The service is available 24/7 and provides access to specialised counsellors with an understanding of military culture and experience. 

Defence personnel, veterans and their families can also access free and confidential counselling 24/7 through Open Arms – Veterans & Families Counselling Service (1800 011 046) or online at www.openarms.gov.au.
