Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri has hosted representatives from the Australian Defence Capability and Technology Management College, part of the Australian Defence Department, at its Muggiano Shipyard in La Spezia, Italy.

The delegation, led by Commander Sean Leydon, was given an overview of Fincantieri, one of the world’s largest shipbuilding groups and one of three contender for the Navy’s Future Frigates under project SEA 5000.
Fincantieri Australia chairman Dario Deste said this visit reflected the company’s desire to engage key stakeholders from Australia and to show them the company’s naval shipbuilding capabilities, including its deep technical and engineering experience.
“We were delighted to host Sean and the team from Australia to build a better understanding of Fincantierí’s longstanding naval shipbuilding experience that stretches back 237 years to 1780 and construction of more than 7,000 ships,” he said.
“Fincantieri pays particular attention to our close links to the defence forces and visits like this only help to better understand their capabilities needs. We look forward to many more future engagements of this kind.”
During their visit, members of the delegation toured the Muggiano Shipyards where Fincantieri builds FREMM frigates of the type it’s proposing for SEA 5000.
They were briefed on Fincantieri’s naval vessels business unit and on CETENA, a company within the Fincantieri Group dedicated to research and consultancy in the naval and maritime field.
