SubSTEC4 is convened by the Submarine Institute of Australia (SIA).

“We are pleased that Nick Xenophon has accepted our invitation to speak at SubSTEC4,” said SIA executive director David Nicholls.

“One of the purposes of the SIA is to promote informed discussion and debate about submarine matters and Mr Xenophon’s presence will help us to achieve this objective at SubSTEC4.”

Nicholls said like many in the community, Xenophon’s interest in submarines has increased significantly in recent years.

Delegates attending the conference dinner will receive first-hand insights into his latest views and perspectives on Australia’s submarine capability development, including the Future Submarine Program, and other defence-related issues, he said.

SubSTEC4 starts on Monday morning and runs to Thursday evening, with more than 250 delegates expected. Defence Industry Minister Christopher Pyne will present the opening address.
