Defence has confirmed it has awarded a prime a contract to provide engineering and logistics service to the Royal Australian Navy (RAN) over the next five years.
QinetiQ Australia will deliver on the contract, which will create an additional seven jobs at the RAN's Mine Warfare Maintenance Facility at HMAS Waterhen.
"QinetiQ Australia is a program delivery business that provides support for the acquisition, operation and sustainment of mission critical capability," Defence Industry Minister Christopher Pyne said.
"This contract ensures the Royal Australian Navy will have a reliable source of mine warfare exercise equipment and support for current and future activities."
The five-year contract, valued at $9.25 million, has option to extend to 10 years.
QinetiQ Australia managing director Greg Barsby previously told Defence Connect that the company's experience with CASG's explosive ordnance and munitions branch made this project a "logical extension" of the work the company has undertaken so far.
"We've worked closely with explosive ordnance and munitions branch for a long time providing support on the Mulwala and Benalla projects, providing support here at Orchard Hills and at Penrith and the number of weapons programs headquartered out of Canberra," Barsby said.
"The Mine Warfare Maintenance Facility was a kind of logical extension of that support that we've been providing them."
QinetiQ recently opened an office in Adelaide, which currently has 27 staff, with room for up to 55 staff as the company continues its expansion. Across Australia, QinetiQ currently employs over 350 Australians.
