Earlier this year, Australia participated in the French-led Gulf Anti-Submarine Warfare Exercise (GASWEX 19), which allowed the ADF to flex HMAS Ballarat's ASW capabilities alongside several other nations.

The exercise was conducted over three days and included units from France, Denmark, the US and Australia.
It was carried out in support of the Charles de Gaulle Carrier Strike Group, providing realistic training in the protection of high-value assets against a sub-surface adversary during fixed wing carrier operation.
The Royal Australian Navy Anzac-class frigate HMAS Ballarat took part in the exercise and was commended for her efforts.
“Rear Admiral [Olivier] Lebas visited the ship on the final day of GASWEX,” said Lieutenant Stefan Stuart, Principal Warfare Officer HMAS Ballarat.
“During this exercise, Ballarat did very well. We were commended by the admiral from the carrier for our efforts during the exercise and it gave us an opportunity to participate with ships we wouldn’t normally get a chance to do exercises with.”
