Since its inception in 2020, the Defence Connect Budget Lunch has brought together professionals and influential figures from across government, services, the defence industry and the strategic policy community to engage with and hear from the nation’s key policymakers to assess the impact of the federal budget on Australia’s defence and national security.
With the launch of the government’s Defence Strategic Review, this years summit provided the opportunity for attendees to engage directly with the central decision makers and key stakeholders charged with delivering the transformational capabilities and programs critical to shaping our national security.
Throughout the lunch, attendees had the chance to take part in discussions with keynote speakers, including journalist Stan Grant, and the Honourable Luke Howarth MP, Shadow Minister for Defence Industry and Shadow Minister for Defence Personnel. Attendees also heard directly from the Honourable Pat Conroy MP, Minister for Defence Industry, Minister for International Development and the Pacific.
During the event, speakers explored the government's priorities for Defence as outlined in the Defence Strategic Review, and how this year's federal budget aligns with these needs. Attendees were also given the opportunity to hear a response from the Coalition and Defence thought leaders on how these changes will impact Australia's national security ecosystem.
