Defence Ipswich 2019 Supply Chain Opportunities Symposium

Ipswich City Council is proud to announce a stellar line-up of speakers participating in its signature defence event the Defence Ipswich 2019 Supply Chain Opportunities Symposium on Friday 8 November 2019.

“Through this initiative, council aims bring defence and industry together to connect and discuss project opportunities, share insights contributing to upskilling and networking with key decision-makers in government, industry and academia” said Tamanna Monem, Ipswich City Council’s lead contact for defence industry development.  

Promoted worldwide, notable international delegates will be travelling to the City of Ipswich to take part in the event.

Industry experts presenting at the symposium include:

  • Lee Davis (Rheinmetall Defence Australia)
  • Chris Hess (Lockheed Martin Australia)
  • David Peckham (Thales Group)
  • Nigel Everingham (NIOA - Firearms, Optics, Ammunition and Accessories)

The Australian Industry & Defence Network Queensland (AIDN-QLD) advised that small and medium enterprises (SMEs) were attracted to attend the event to receive insights into project opportunities. In addition, SMEs have expressed interest in participating in the ‘speed dating’ style B2B session, a unique inaugural event in the region.

Registered attendees will meet one-on-one with defence contractors, suppliers and key players in the defence supply chain - an opportunity not to be missed.

Naval Ship Management are delighted to invite you to a powerful and compelling Health and Safety presentation with Louise Taggart and Garry Claxton. Together, their experiences remind us why workplace safety is so important and how a focus on training and raising awareness can help not only to reduce injury, but more importantly save lives. About the guest speakers: Louise Taggart, an internationally recognised Workplace Safety speaker will share her brothers’ story, who died from a workplace accident. Michael, an experienced electrician, died on 4 August 2005 as the result of an electrical incident at work. Louise outlines what went wrong and the inquiry findings, but most importantly the impact it has had on Michael’s friends and family. Garry Claxton, Special Counsel and Senior Law Lecturer from Fides Safety Management, will take us through the legal side of the WHSE Act and possible repercussions if we do not ensure a Duty of Care through demonstrated Safe Working Practices.

Textron Systems, Bell Helicopters and BAE are looking at a number of UAS Defence Projects, and have prepared a roadshow across Australia in search of potential partners in the supply chain. The programs they are bidding for are: LAND 129 Phase 3 – Shadow 200 TUAS replacement LAND 4503 – ARH replacement SEA 129 Phase 5 – Maritime TUAS The event will consist of an hour of presentations by Textron, BAE and Bell, followed by an hour of networking.
