About the business
Universal Motion Simulation Pty Ltd (UMS) is a Geelong, Victoria based company focused on the design and manufacture of reconfigurable, high-fidelity motion simulators for driver, pilot and sailor training. We are executing on over ten years of contracts that apply our core simulator technology to our customers unique need where training to the edge of the platform performance is required.
This is not a typical engineering role. As a rapidly growing business, all employees are hands on with practical day to day engineering and operations, while thinking and acting at a senior level.
This role is well suited to someone who enjoys the challenge of new technology, can create structure from ambiguity, led by example and creates a collaborative environment.
The role will report to the Chief Executive Officer and work within project structures as required.
About the role
The Engineering Manager responsibilities include:
Senior executive contribution, leadership and co-ordination to deliver organisational performance including financial, customer, internal process and supplier aspects.
Development, implementation and governance of the UMS engineering principles, standards, specifications, manuals, instructions and guidelines to ensure compliance to technical regulations and certification requirements.
Execute engineering design authority for authorising and approving configuration and design changes to systems including safety assurance for products and services
Building, training, leading and mentoring technical and engineering specialists to deliver on engineering aspects from concept development, through design to delivery of customer solutions and products.
Accurately scope, plan, coordinate and monitor projects in accordance with client requirements and organisational capability.
Skills and experience
The Engineering Manager needs to demonstrate and maintain currency in the following:
Professional engineering experience in delivering complex systems to an ASDEFCON contract framework in a safety/ mission critical environment.
Experience in the design and manufacture of complex electronic products that incorporate mechanical, software, firmware and electrical components.
Experience in the design, test and integration of software architectures that incorporate commercial off the shelf and development units.
Experience in delivering to a Technical Certification framework (i.e. TRAMM-L) and working knowledge of commercial (EN, AS, FCC, ISO etc.) and military (MIL, DEF(AUST) etc.) standards.
Minimum 5 years' experience in leading small and diverse engineering teams in a fast paced environment.
Is an Australian Citizen and/or is eligible to hold an Australian Defence Security Clearance and meet ITAR eligibility requirements.
