Defence Connect’s sister publication, Space Connect, has confirmed the finalists for the inaugural Space Connect Australian Space Awards, recognising the breadth of experience, talent and capability from across Australia’s space industry.

With a little over a month before the inaugural Australian Space Awards, hosted in partnership with KBR, Space Connect has revealed an exceptional field of over 120 finalists shortlisted from over 366 submissions representing 60 companies.
William Magee, head of strategy at Space Connect, the brand behind the Australian Space Awards, welcomed the level of participation to the inaugural Australian Space Awards – and engagement from sectors across the space industry.
“The interest in the awards program, and the number of submissions received, reinforces the opportunity we identified in giving Australia’s space sector a national platform of recognition,” he said.
This inaugural awards platform is designed to recognise professionals and organisations and covers 30+ categories focusing on all facets of the defence industry.
Categories cover primes, SMEs, manufacturing business, academic institutions and associations through to high-performing individuals such as executives, rising stars, students, scientists, technicians and academics.
“The backing of the Australian Space Agency plus the Space Industry Association of Australia (SIAA) as supporting partners of the Australian Space Awards is testament to the collective drive of the sector to realise a robust, globally-competitive domestic space industry,” Magee added.
Space Connect has created an awards program initiative that will showcase the nation’s best and brightest space businesses and professionals.
“The number of submissions received, plus the calibre of partners and judges we’ve attracted to the program, is an extraordinary vote of confidence for Australia’s space industry and representative of the depth of talent we have in our sector – I would like to thank each of the entrants for their submissions and wish all the finalists the best of luck,” Magee said.
Recognising the leading individuals and businesses driving the development of Australia’s space economy, the Australian Space Awards universally acknowledges all space industry stakeholders – from the major listed organisations and corporates servicing Australia’s space economy to SMEs, start-ups, academic institutions and associations.
The awards is open to all businesses operating in Australia supporting the space industry, including telecommunications, satellite, energy, mining and transport sectors, as well as the defence, agriculture, disaster and water management industries.
Winning a Space Award will be a desirable accolade for both individuals and businesses seeking to forge their role in the space industry.
The awards celebrates the best of the best in Australia’s space industry and will recognise the outstanding contribution of professionals and businesses working within the industry across 22 categories.
The winners will be announced at a black-tie gala dinner on Thursday, 26 March, at the Four Seasons Hotel, Sydney.
