Naval Ship Management (NSM), owned by Babcock Australasia, has celebrated its 10th anniversary providing support to the Royal Australian Navy’s fleet.

Originally established to undertake the Group Maintenance Contract for the Anzac Class frigate, NSM has expanded over the last decade to deliver support to the Canberra Class Landing Helicopter Docks (LHD) and landing craft as the asset class prime contractor, as well as providing continued support to the Anzac Class under the Warship Asset Management Agreement (WAMA).
“We are extremely proud to have been entrusted by our customer to deliver a strong and competitive sovereign naval sustainment capability for Australia for the past 10 years,” Gavin Stewart, general manager of NSM, said.
“Our close partnerships with industry, combined with the dedication and skills of our people, have enabled us to grow into a leading provider of complete maritime sustainment solutions.
“What I’m most proud of is that, despite our substantial growth, we have maintained our excellent safety record and commitment to collaborative partnerships.”
According to NSM, the core focus of the company has been to continue delivering for the customer, while demonstrating a commitment to Australian industry capability.
“NSM’s unique Inclusive Prime model sees us engaging with a wide range of Australian suppliers, of all sizes, to contribute to the sustainment of the ADF’s maritime assets,” Stewart continued.
“Our suppliers have grown with us, and we have created a stronger, more competitive local supply chain.”
The anniversary coincided with the Indo Pacific International Maritime Exposition, where the company formally confirmed its collaboration with Atlantic & Peninsula (A&P Australia) to deliver large ship sustainment solutions on the east coast of Australia.
Andy Davis, managing director – defence at Babcock Australasia, explained that co-operating with other industry providers is essential to deliver exceptional services to the defence force.
“Our plans for the future are centred on our commitment to investing in the key partnerships we have with our customers and industry partners like A&P Australia – strengthening the breadth of our support to maritime capability in Australia, New Zealand and the broader Asia-Pacific region,” Davis said.
“We are proud of the contribution that Babcock and NSM make, together, to keep RAN vessels operationally available and effective – helping to keep Australia and our region secure.”
Just days before, Babcock Australasia launched its inaugural paid internship in Australia, and second graduate program.
Babcock Australasia has launched their two-year graduate program, giving graduates a pathway into the defence and aviation sectors across a range of roles including engineering, project management, finance, human resources and IT.
The program is designed to enable young professionals to apply their expertise in a work environment while engaging with industry leaders.
Currently, the program is seeking applications from those who have studied naval architecture, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, mechatronics, electronics, project management, business, marketing, commerce, HR and software.
