Former Western Australian premier Mark McGowan has been appointed as a senior adviser to the strategic counsel advisory firm Bondi Partners.

Bondi Partners, founded in Washington DC by former Australian ambassador Joe Hockey, provides policy, politics, and private sector advice. The company has teams in Washington, Los Angeles, Sydney, Canberra, and London.

It’s understood the former premier of Western Australia will provide investment and strategic advice, including insights into defence, national security, critical minerals, and clean energy transition.

McGowan has previously served as a Royal Australian Navy legal officer at naval base HMAS Stirling, south of Perth; represented the district of Rockingham in the Western Australian parliament for more than 25 years, and attained cabinet roles including in tourism, environment, and state development.

“Mark was the 30th premier of Western Australia, leading his state through the COVID-19 pandemic and overseeing economic success recording a balance sheet that was the envy of the country, if not the world,” according to Bondi Partners.

“As leader, he also spearheaded the establishment of Metronet, a multi-government agency responsible for managing generational extensions to Perth’s rail network.

"Bondi Partners... was born to help elevate the trade and investment partnership between Australia and the United States to the next level. With the evolution of AUKUS, a trilateral security pact between Australia, the UK, and the US, Bondi Partners footprint continues to grow across the Pacific and the Atlantic. Today we have teams in Washington, Los Angeles, Sydney, Canberra and London where we partner with businesses which want to grow and invest across allied and global markets."
