Babcock Australasia used professional actors to enhance safety training during a recent workplace health and safety workshop.

Dubbed “Game Day”, the workshop illustrated a range of safety awareness scenarios with 200 participants taking part from Babcock, industry, and Defence.

The workshops, delivered by Acting Consulting Training Australia and New Zealand, were held over three days at Garden Island highlighting the array of emotions and challenges that individuals face when addressing safety incidents.

“Safety is paramount and at the core of Babcock’s culture right across the company,” Marine Simon Spratt, Babcock Australasia’s managing director, said.

“Through unique initiatives like the Game Day workshops, Babcock is continually updating the way we deliver safety training to staff to ensure we are at the forefront of the latest requirements and advice.

“Staff told us they thoroughly enjoyed the workshops and said the performances were engaging and interesting and therefore, the critical messaging really sank in.”

According to ACT Australia and New Zealand’s managing director, Susan Fleming, the workshops were constructed to impart the “greatest impact”.

“From day one, the access that Babcock gave the ACT team to meet the people who work in maintenance and sustainment in order for us to successfully deliver the workshops, was a point of difference,” Fleming explained.

“Our close collaboration with Babcock allowed ACT to deliver the workshops with the greatest impact and resonance that really hits home.”

The announcement shortly follows confirmation that KBR and Babcock Australasia would coordinate to deliver fleet asset management services for the Royal Australian Navy.

Led by KBR, the partnership is responding to the tender for the Amphibious Combat and Sealift, Capability Life Cycle Manager to provide naval asset management services under the Maritime Sustainment Model, according to an announcement on 17 May.

Rob Hawketts, KBR government solutions APAC vice-president, said the partnership harnesses almost 20 years’ experience of both companies across the Landing Helicopter Dock, Landing Ship Dock and Auxiliary Oiler Replenishment platforms.

“The partnership draws on the collective strengths of KBR and Babcock to ultimately deliver a better result for the Australian government and Royal Australian Navy,” Hawketts said.

“No other partnership has our level of combined experience across the ACS platforms.”
