Of the 2,600 graduates that applied, 42 have joined BAE Systems Australia for a two-year program working across various defence projects.

During the two-year placement, this year’s graduates will have four placements. The 2018 graduates will specialise in engineering, project management, finance, IM&T and commercial and procurement and will be based at the company’s facilities in South Australia; Williamstown and Richmond in Victoria; North Ryde and Garden Island, NSW; Canberra, ACT; and Portsmith, Queensland.

Chief executive of BAE Systems Australia Gabby Costigan said graduates selected under the program have a unique opportunity to position themselves to become future leaders in the industry.

"Our graduate program is just one aspect of our efforts to advance the next generation of employees within the business," said Costigan.

"We have the highest expectations of our graduates as potential future leaders within the business, both here in Australia and overseas."

Costigan said recruiting strong talent is part of the company's plans to continue building on its well-established presence in Australia as it works towards securing two major projects this year; LAND 400 Phase 2 and SEA 5000.

"Our graduate program is important for us as we invest in developing the capability we need for the future and delivering future defence programs, supporting the men and women in the Australian Defence Force," she said.

One-third of the 42 graduates recruited are female, a move BAE Systems said reflects its efforts to create a diverse workforce.

65 graduate positions for 2019 will be available and recruitment is currently underway.
