In a joint statement with federal member for Tangney Ben Morton, Minister for Defence Industry Melissa Price has announced the awarding of a $1.87 million Defence Innovation Hub (DIH) contract to Perth-based SME AVI Pty Ltd.

“AVI has a strong record of designing, developing and building specialised communications solutions for harsh, remote environments,” Minister Price said.

“This Australian technology has passed the test under the harsh conditions of the Australian outback and has potentially significant benefits for the situational awareness of our soldiers in the field.”

Morton added that the SME’s receipt of the DIH contract was an example of the opportunities available for local industry.

“It is great to see important innovations like this being developed by small business through the Defence Innovation Hub,” Morton said.

“This funding is helping small businesses to improve Defence capability and grow jobs for local companies like AVI.

“The Morrison government’s record investment in defence industry is also supporting Australian manufacturing, which is more innovative and capable than it has ever been.”

AVI has become the third Western Australia-based defence firm to secure a DIH contract.
