The global defence contractor has been tapped to support the sustainment of sovereign ICT geospatial mission systems.

Lockheed Martin Australia (LMA) has secured a $20 million contract to support the Australian Geospatial Intelligence Organisation’s (AGO) ‘South COAST’ program.

As part of the two-year contract, LMA staff and contractors will be tasked with working collaboratively with AGO personnel to support the operation and sustainment of sovereign ICT geospatial mission systems, used for the analysis and dissemination of geospatial intelligence.

Lockheed Martin Australia’s regional director for space, David Ball, welcomed the contract, which he said would support LMA’s commitment to strengthening Australia’s sovereign industry capability.

“We’re very proud of this contract, which aligns strongly with government’s vision of a robust, resilient and internationally competitive defence industry sector,” he said.

“As a long-term partner in the defence and national security sector, delivering resilient and sovereign capability at the cutting edge is at the heart of LMA’s vision, whether that’s supporting intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance, military satellite communications, space domain awareness or beyond.”

The contract builds on LMA’s push to expand its presence in the space domain.

The company is currently bidding for the Commonwealth government’s JP 9102 Australian Defence SATCOM System project.

LMA is competing against a number of other contractors for JP 9102, including Airbus and Boeing Defence Australia.

The JP 9102 tender is scheduled to close on 24 December.
