The new appointee joins BAE Systems from environmental services provider SUEZ in North America, where he served in the same role for over four years.

Salas has also previously held senior roles at Butgers Cyber Security, Perpetual Limited, and Ticketek.

BAE Systems Australia CEO Ben Hudson welcomed Salas to the company’s leadership team, noting the importance of driving digital transformation in the defence industry.

“Digital and disruptive technologies are revolutionising the world at an incredible pace and in a defence industry environment this is especially challenging,” he said.

“BAE systems is always looking at next-generation capabilities in this space to ensure the critical programs that we support across air, land, cyber and sea for the Australian Defence Force remain protected.

“Michael has an impressive track record in achieving sustainable change and innovation and he will play a pivotal role in the way in which the company grows its support for the ADF and its future requirements.”

The appointment comes just a week after BAE Systems Australia launched the “Veterans Employment Best Practice” guide, which draws from the company’s experience supporting the veteran community to share tips for “attracting, recruiting and retaining veteran talent”.

This came off the back of the company’s endeavour to offer more thought leadership in the area of veteran employment, partly driven by its Veterans Advisory Committee (VAC).

The guide includes steps organisations can follow to develop their own VAC.
