Oshkosh Defense has announced a formal bid protest over the loss of the $8.66 billion Joint Light Tactical Vehicle follow-on contract to US automotive manufacturer AM General.

Oshkosh Defense has announced a formal bid protest over the loss of the $8.66 billion Joint Light Tactical Vehicle follow-on contract to US automotive manufacturer AM General.

The US Army awarded the contract for more than 20,000 Joint Light Tactical Vehicles (JLTV) and almost 10,000 trailers to AM General on 9 February this year.

The five-year deal announced by the US Army Contracting Command Detroit Arsenal stated deliveries are expected to begin 17 months from that date.

The unexpected result earlier this year was compounded by AM General previously losing their bid for the JLTV contract to Oshkosh in 2015.

Oshkosh Corporation senior vice-president and Oshkosh Defense president Tim Bleck said a formal bid protest was with the US Government Accountability Office (GAO).

“After participating in the government’s post-award debriefing process, we have significant concerns regarding the evaluation of the proposals under the solicitation that support an independent review,” he said.

“We believe the government’s evaluation did not properly review the financial, technical, and manufacturing capabilities offered to select the best value and lowest risk solution to deliver the JLTV.”

The independent GAO review of the procurement decision was initiated by Oshkosh on March 6.

An AM General spokesperson said AM General will not comment on this matter at this time.
