Sweden to acquire 20 Patria armoured vehicles

The Swedish Defence Procurement Agency has purchased 20 6x6 armoured vehicles under a contract with international defence and technology company Patria.

The Swedish Defence Procurement Agency has purchased 20 6x6 armoured vehicles under a contract with international defence and technology company Patria.

The Patria 6x6 troop transport vehicle, carrying 12 personnel, was previously chosen as the platform for a Common Armoured Vehicle System (CAVS) collaboration program between Finland, Latvia, Sweden, and Germany.

The first deliveries of the Swedish Pansarterrängbil 300 vehicles are scheduled to occur this year, while Latvia has received ongoing deliveries since late 2021 and Finland received its pre-series vehicles in the summer of 2022.

Patria market area Nordics head Mats Warstedt said the vehicle is modular and can be configured for different purposes such as command and control, heavy APC, mortar system or ambulance duties.

“The Swedish Armed Forces have operated Patria’s XA 6x6 and AMV 8x8 vehicles for over three decades in many harsh environments around the world and this new contract for our latest Patria 6x6 vehicle proves that the vehicles live up to our promises,” he said.

“Patria 6x6 vehicle is also a very good example of Finnish–Swedish cooperation, where a significant value is provided by Swedish suppliers such as the engine and the steel of its armour.”

Germany officially joined the CAVS program by signing the technical agreement on 17 April, after signing a statement of intent in June last year.

“We gladly welcome Germany into the CAVS program and thank Sweden for taking the next step towards the serial procurement phase,” said Patria executive vice president Jukka Holkeri.

“The program provides all member nations the possibility to purchase cost-effective state-of-the-art and modular armoured vehicles developed within unprecedented multinational cooperation.

“Adding yet another country to the program will improve the mobility and security of supply among all participating nations.”
