ADA to expand DISP membership

Australian Defence Apparel has confirmed that the company is expanding its current Defence Industry Security Program membership to its Bendigo factory.

Australian Defence Apparel has confirmed that the company is expanding its current Defence Industry Security Program membership to its Bendigo factory.

Australia’s largest provider of uniforms and equipment to the Australian Defence Force and emergency services personnel, Australian Defence Apparel, has confirmed that the company is expanding DISP membership to its Bendigo factory.

According to the company, upon expansion, ADA will be the nation’s only uniform manufacturer with DISP membership and the only uniform provider in Australia with a DISP-certified factory.

Membership in the program covers four levels: governance, personnel, physical and cyber security, and ensured enhanced Defence supply chain security. ADA holds membership across all levels.

Ensuring the company achieves DISP membership is essential for protecting Australia’s defence supply chain, David Connors, chief technology officer and chief information security officer of ADA, said.

“This is a crucial element of ADA’s growth plan and is especially critical considering the current landscape whereby essential and highly classified data is often under threat,” Connors explained.

“ADA ensures that we keep everything in-house; we don’t use managed service providers or external providers to host any of our critical systems.

“Data sovereignty is vital as well. We go through very rigid workflows around vetting any new IT platforms that we look to bring into the organisation to ensure we can check where the data is held, who has access to it, and how is it being held.”

DISP membership is an important signal to the Commonwealth and Defence that businesses understand physical and cyber security, an ADA spokesperson explained.

For ADA, this includes physical – the uniforms, and cyber – IP and customer information.

Narelle Dimopoulos, governance and risk manager at ADA, outlined that their cyber security protocols ensure that the company plays a part in keeping the defence supply chain safe.

“From a cyber security perspective, this membership ensures not only is the data of our employees safe but also the data of our clients and customers,” Dimopoulos said.

“A large part of our business is our total apparel management system (TAMS) offering, whereby we provide a personalised B2B contemporary online ordering platform. This allows clients to access a unique and secure ordering hub personalised to their requirements, make purchases and track their orders.

“A seamless user experience whilst maintaining the highest degree of data security and privacy is our utmost priority.”
