Sydney-based Aquabotix has been accepted as a member of the Undersea Technology Innovation Consortium (UTIC), joining a select list of innovative, undersea technology leaders, including Northrop Grumman and Raytheon.

UTIC brings together industry and government with the goal of enabling collaborative and rapid development, prototyping, testing and commercialisation of innovative undersea and maritime technologies.

Aquabotix was approved to join UTIC because of its proven ability to contribute technological development to support the defence and security of the US and other allied nations.

In June 2018, UTIC was awarded the Other Transaction Authority (OTA) Agreement for Undersea Technology Innovation by the US Naval Undersea Warfare Center. The OTA enables the consortium members to engage in a broad range of undersea and maritime development and prototyping activities and allows for the delivery of new technology faster and more efficiently than traditional US federal acquisition requirements might permit.

“We are honoured and eager to join UTIC in support of its mission to rapidly develop defence and security technologies for the United States and allied nations,” commented Aquabotix chief executive Whitney Million.

“We expect that Aquabotix’s innovative offerings and agility as a small business, paired with the support of and collaboration with the US government and other larger defence companies through this consortium, will expand our reach and provide us with important funding opportunities.”

Based in Sydney and Fall River, Massachusetts, US, Aquabotix is an established underwater robotics company that manufactures and sells commercial and industrial-grade underwater drones for commercial, high-end consumer and military applications. It is also the first company globally that is offering commercially-available swarming underwater drones.

Aquabotix's portfolio of products includes remotely operated vehicle, hybrid autonomous/remote underwater vehicles and underwater camera systems. Aquabotix products are utilised in commercial, educational, industrial, government, military and recreational applications by anyone looking to explore under water.
